The colours of the flag are the same as the national flag of the United States and signify Arkansas as one of the states in the Union.
The 25 white stars represent Arkansas as the 25th state to be admitted to the union of the United States.
The diamond symbolises Arkansas as the first diamond producing state.
The 3 blue stars clustered together within the diamond have three meanings:
They represent the three countries Arkansas has belonged to: Spain, France and the United States.
In 1803 the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France, this was called the Louisiana Purchase.
Arkansas was the third state to be created from the acquired land.
In 1923 a fourth blue star was included inside the diamond and placed above the name of Arkansas,
it represents Arkansas’ former membership to the Confederate States of America. |
