Saint Lucia is one of the Windward Islands situated in the
south-eastern Caribbean Sea.
St. Lucia obtained self-government from its former colonial ruler, Great Britain and adopted the basic design of the current national flag in 1967.
The flag was slightly modified when St. Lucia achieved full independence as a constitutional
monarchy, on the 22nd of February 1979.
Local St. Lucian artist Dunstan St. Omer designed the flag. |

Blue represents the tropical sky above St. Lucia,
the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, which surround the island nation. Yellow symbolises the ever-present Caribbean sunshine and prosperity.
Black and white symbolise the different cultural influences brought to the island by the different races and a desire for unity and harmony between them.
The triangle design symbolises a significant geological formation found on the island, the Pitons, twin volcanic cones, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, that rise sheer out of the Caribbean Sea on the south-western side of the island. |
