The Gambia was a British
colony from the mid-19th century, until the 18th of February 1965,
when full independence was achieved.
The Gambia is named after
the Gambia River, which the country straddles for approximately 290 kilometres.
The concept of the
national flag
came from The Gambia, but was designed by the College of Arms,
England. The current
flag dates from the 18th of February 1965. |
