National Flag of the Republic of Cote D'Ivoire (1959)

Cote d'Ivorie, also known as the Ivory Coast, was colonised by France late in the 19th century. It adopted its current flag on the 3rd of December 1959 and received full independence a year later.

Like other former French territories, Cote d'Ivorie looked to the French national flag for inspiration when designing its national flag.

Since 1986 the nation has officially used the French version of its name.

The Symbolic Meaning

Orange represents the savannah grasslands of the country's north, green signifies the coastal forests of the south and white represents purity and the unity of the north and south of the nation.
